SmallRig Introduces New Cooling Fans for Mirrorless Cameras

Instructions

SmallRig has introduced an innovative Universal Cooling System for mirrorless cameras, aimed at tackling the persistent issue of overheating during prolonged shooting sessions. This new system comes in two distinct variants: Hybrid Cooling and Basic Cooling, each tailored to different operational demands and environmental conditions, offering varied approaches to thermal regulation.

Addressing a critical limitation faced by many mirrorless camera users, especially with increasing recording durations and high-performance workflows, SmallRig's new cooling solution ensures optimal camera performance. Both models are equipped with an integrated rechargeable battery, allowing for uninterrupted power supply even while charging, which is ideal for extended shoots. The design incorporates a convenient snap-in mounting mechanism, ensuring effortless attachment and detachment, and supports both caged and cage-free camera setups, making it highly adaptable for various photographic and videographic configurations.

The Hybrid Cooling model elevates thermal management by integrating a semiconductor cooling module, which provides enhanced temperature control beyond mere airflow. This makes it particularly suitable for challenging shooting environments where heat accumulation is a major concern. It features three operational modes—Auto, High, and Low—providing users with the flexibility to adjust cooling intensity as needed. At its peak power setting, the internal battery delivers approximately 70 minutes of operation. In contrast, the Basic Cooling version adopts a simpler, fan-based approach without the semiconductor module, resulting in a lighter unit with an extended battery life. This model is more appropriate for scenarios requiring moderate cooling over longer periods, offering up to 180 minutes of runtime at maximum power. Both versions share a compact design, making them compatible with a wide array of Sony and Canon mirrorless cameras, including popular models like the Sony FX3, a7 IV, and Canon EOS R5.

This innovative cooling system from SmallRig represents a significant advancement in camera accessory technology, providing photographers and videographers with the tools to push the boundaries of their creative work without being hampered by thermal limitations. By effectively managing camera temperatures, these devices ensure consistent performance and extend the lifespan of valuable equipment, thereby empowering creators to achieve their artistic visions with greater reliability and peace of mind.
